Determination:-(noun)- {dih-tur-meh-ney-shun} the quality of being determined to do or achieve something; firmness of purpose.
We are now at the end of week two!! That's 14 days of P90X and David is still going strong...and getting stronger. In other words, I see some muscles on him I haven't seen before! Hubba hubba! I've learned a couple of things this week - men can't do yoga and kale is really good with almost everything.
Ok maybe some men can do yoga - but mine... well, he can't. At least not yet. Tony Horton and his group, they can do Yoga and make it look easy...but David? He makes it look silly. I know he will get much better as the time goes on but for now, not so much. Thursday is the day for Yoga in this house - a time when Riley thinks that Daddy is playing a game with her. "Upward dog" she thinks is a time to jump on Daddy's back giggling her cute little giggle. "Downward dog" means she gets to get a ride up in the air and scream that she might fall. And "Prayer twist" is her opportunity to he give her Dad a high-five. Try watching all of this (and try to be supportive) and not laugh. It's definitely a hard task for this cheerleader! I've watched a couple of workouts this week because instead of getting up early he has had to workout at night. It's challenging with four kids but not an excuse to skip a workout! I'm proud of his determination. I think it's time for bed and he's about to do 90 minutes of ass kicking & ab crunching moves. It's amazing. I know seeing results definitely helps with the motivation and results are definitely in the works.
And... on to Kale. That green, rough, leafy stuff...comes in a gigantic bag at Wal-Mart or any grocery store, smells and tastes like crap... raw, that is - It's great with everything cooked, though - and it's a {"super-food" so that's great for you! There are a lot of things we are learning from this workout. I've decided that the kids will no longer eat anything with hydrogenated oils in them - that includes Capri Sun and pudding snack packs! I had no idea. I knew it was bad but like everything else you think, "oh, they will be fine" or my favorite is "everything is okay in moderation." That might be true for some things - but not everything. If it wasn't for David getting involved in this workout then maybe I wouldn't have become so aware of what's good and what's going to flat out kill you! So the diet part of this has been great. And let's not forget the best part - since David has been so strict with what he puts in his food and how much of each thing he can have I've gotten out of cooking when he's home and have eaten some really great meals! That's a win/win for me!
And (as always) there are challenges. Today was a Jones BBQ to celebrate my cousin's birthday. Included was an amazing roasted pork with gravy, Aunt Donna's special potatoes which involves a harmonious love affair between tons of potatoes, tons of melted cheese, tons of bacon and tons of calories. It's amazing! No, really - amazing. David didn't even waffle a little bit...(wow - I bet he misses waffles too) And not to mention the stuffed mushrooms with crab meat - seriously a piece of Heaven with every bite...I had at least five. But not him. He didn't have any! And of course you are going to get interesting looks from people who think that "one bite is ok" and aren't used to hearing a man decline such good food but he's determined and that's something to be proud of.
Oh, and one last thing - we needed one more piece of "uniform" to carry on with the training: his special timex heart-rate monitor (complete with back light and clock)! Woot! He's a Power Ranger in training with the little chest-strap tightly lifting up his (soon to be no longer) man boobs! So cute! I couldn't help but laugh at him for it and of course snap a picture! Another thing no one will be seeing until we have some final results. I mean, I know I'm brutal but even I'm not that bad! So the cost has gone up just a little bit, but it's another thing worth it to complete this! And, besides - he needs to "keep in the zone". (Insert Britney Spears and Madonna singing "Me Against The Music" here.) I've been singing it since he bought the thing...Gotta get in the zone!
So that's the close of week two! Still going strong. Still javascript:void(0)determined to not give up! Still losing weight and gaining muscle. Still eating tons of eggs and protein shakes. Still not ready to kill him for not eating any cooking I do (even though the cooking I do is healthy... it's just not up to P90X standards). Still loving him for this - and still very proud!
Go Team!

Day SIX Pack
So it's day six! I have to say I'm very excited for David that week one is almost over! Day one was interesting... I woke up to my living room rearranged into a "gym" (if you could consider the tables moved into random places, the baby chairs piled up, and two small children running around trying to mimic Daddy's every move a gym!) Planet Fitness doesn't have anything on us! As my house shook, and heavy breathing came from the living room I was hoping that those sounds wouldn't confuse the neighbors... but then again it was 9:00 am - and things like that are only for people who don't have kids!
I now have four small holes above my door in the living room courtesy of one necessary chin-up bar! I'm sure by the time David is done with this he will be able to add "plasterer/painter" to his resume.
With four kids we knew there would be some challenges in doing this! For instance: it's not easy waking up to find there really isn't anywhere to sit in our cozy (but small) apartment. This made it easy for me to get annoyed (after being up a couple times throughout the night with the baby). I mean come on, not everyone wakes up with their game faces on! We will definitely have to come to some agreement on what time David should begin his workout. Having to drink a protein shake an hour before though, doesn't exactly fit into David's "night-owl non-morning-person" personality and waking up to complete chaos doesn't fit into mine. But I do have to admit waking up on Thursday (day four) and finding my two little ones attempting yoga side-by-side with their daddy absolutely made my day. So very cute with their little butts up in the air trying to attempt a plank position!
There have been some other obstacles - it's hard to eat on a schedule and make sure you are getting the right calories! I have difficulty myself with breastfeeding and still wanting to run on my treadmill! There was a pizza night with the family that David had to decline... I assured him that he wasn't missing anything and ate an extra piece for him!:) And on the other side of it, David made an awesome turkey burger last night and our grocery shopping yesterday was full of protein, fruit, and healthy calories for all! He also has already had to miss a morning workout and move it to the evening because it just didn't fit into the schedule! But he made it happen and won't give up! And then there is the pain...oh, the pain. I know I've heard the word "Ow" at least 100 times this week! What that tells me is that he is definitely putting his all into the workouts. I promise though, I'm laughing with him - not at him! Ok... maybe a little at him too!
I already see changes in David's body which is an absolute encouragement to keep going! I've already ordered his summer wardrobe because the internet has made it just too easy to spend money! I look forward to seeing him sporting his new getup to complement his hard work! 6 days in - only 12,000 push-ups, 9,500 chin-ups, 168 protein shakes, and 84 more days to go! Go Team!
